Pizza

So easy, and without fail, a top hit with the whole family. This is a great dish to get your little ones to prepare. They can help make the dough (if you are using the pizza base mix) and once the bases are ready, they can then make their own pizza!

Ingredients – Sauce

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 can chopped tomatoes
  • 1 tbsp tomato ketchup
  • 1 tsp cornflour

Ingredients – Pizza Toppings

Whatever you fancy, but general favourites:

  • Red and green peppers, sliced
  • Tomato, sliced
  • Sweetcorn (no added salt)
  • Ham
  • Chorizo
  • Mozzarella (if preparing for older babies, grate the mozzarella as this makes it easier for them to chew and swallow)

Instructions

You can buy prepared bases or pizza base mixes from most supermarkets (Morrisons do a good one). Pizza base mixes are very easy to prepare, just follow the packet instructions, and they also give you the option to make little pizza bases for little people.

To make the tomato base sauce and your pizzas:

  1. Fry the onion in the olive oil for about 4 – 5 minutes, until soft.
  2. Add the tin of tomatoes and ketchup and simmer for about 8 minutes until the sauce has thickened.
  3. Mix the cornflour with a 1 tbsp of water and add to the sauce and cook for a couple more minutes.
  4. Spoon the tomato base sauce onto your pizza bases, add your favourite toppings, put your cheese on top and then bake in the oven – following the packet instructions on your pizza bases or pizza base mix (usually about 15 – 20 mins).

Sarah’s Hints & Tips

The tomato base sauce is usually enough for two normal sized adult pizzas, so you can freeze any sauce that you have left over. Just wait for the sauce to cool and then scoop into ice cube trays and pop in the freezer. When frozen, place in freezer bags and label and date.
